Overview
Eric Zuern is a senior project manager on the environmental services team at The Riley Group Inc. (RGI). He has over 15 years of professional experience in the industry and specializes in numerous environmental consulting services, such as “Phase 1” environmental site assessments (ESA), “Phase 2” subsurface contaminant investigations, including soil, groundwater, soil-vapor, and air sampling, soil classification, groundwater monitoring well installation, and overseeing drilling and geophysical survey contractors. He has also designed and overseen various methods of “Phase 3" site remediation/cleanup engagements encompassing all stages from initial planning and permitting stages with clients and regulators through completion of cleanup activities, underground storage tank removals, soil removal, groundwater treatment, groundwater monitoring, and drafting and submitting technical reports to various Washington State agencies.

Project Experience
Bayfront Property, Port Orchard, WA
Mr. Zuern completed characterization and remediation of contamination related to a historic underground heating oil tank beneath a public right-of-way in Port Orchard including soil, groundwater, and indoor air sampling and testing, groundwater treatment, monitoring well installation and preparation of an environmental covenant for a property specific No Further Action determination which was granted to the property in 2021.
White River Cleaners, Auburn, WA
Mr. Zuern completed initial investigation of a release of contaminants from an operating dry cleaner. Mr. Zuern oversaw characterization efforts including soil sampling and groundwater and soil-vapor monitoring and designed/implemented a soil-vapor extraction system to treat impacted soils beneath the building.
Showers of Blessings Church Site, Seattle, WA
Mr. Zuern developed and coordinated final site characterization plan relating to contaminants released to soils from a former gas station/maintenance shop. Mr. Zuern worked with the Pollution Liability Insurance Agency (PLIA) to develop a remedial sampling/testing regimen and submittal of a site history summary. Mr. Zuern communicated with the owner, subcontractors, regulators, and service providers prior to property redevelopment activities and obtained a No Further Action determination from PLIA.
Ray’s Grocery, Sekiu, WA
Mr. Zuern completed initial subsurface investigations which identified contaminated soils related to an on-site gas station. Mr. Zuern worked with the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) to develop a characterization and monitoring plan to verify the lack of contaminant migration to the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Mr. Zuern prepared a long-term monitoring plan and environmental covenant for the property which was granted a status of No Further Action by Ecology.
Everett Shorefront, Everett, WA
Mr. Zuern worked with the Washington Department of Ecology to oversee the excavation of dioxin impacted soils from a shorefront redevelopment.
